IGXP Slashes Gold Prices on Select World of Warcraft Servers

IGXP reduces the price of in-game currency purchases on a number of mature World of Warcraft MMORPG servers.
Australia – June 2005 – IGXP announced today that the company would be cutting the cost of in-game currency on a number of United States based World of Warcraft game servers. Virtual World of Warcraft (WoW) currency, called gold, is the basis of the popular Massively Multi-player Role Playing Game’s (MMORPG) economy and has a huge impact on a WoW’s gameplay and player development and strategy. Gold is used to buy and sell new weapons, armor, potions, and other goods. It is also used to repair damaged goods and pays for transportation between locales. As such, many WoW players are on the constant lookout for new sources of gold, both in-game and off-line.

IGXP’s price cut affects a total of 32 United States based game servers: these include 15 player-vs.-player (PvP) servers, 13 player-vs.-environment (PvE) servers, and 4 role-playing (RP) servers. Among these are two of Australian players’ most popular servers, the player-vs.-player Blackrock and the player-vs.-environment Proudmoore servers.

The price of in-game virtual currency is dependent on a number of factors including the age of the server, the player population level, and the vitality of the game’s economy on that server. As a server ages and become more mature, the player population reaches higher levels and the trade economy begins to flourish. Such an environment facilitates the accumulating and redistribution of in-game wealth.

In the case of the 32 World of Warcraft servers included in the price cut, each of these servers had developed to such an extent that IGXP was able to more efficiently secure in-game gold. Although the price cut included both new and established services, the servers listed are, on average, around 2-3 months old. Most of them have witnessed the rise of the server’s first level 60 characters, the highest level a WoW character can obtain in the game, and are nurturing a booming trade community.

The 32 U.S. servers included in the gold price cut are as follows:

  • Archimonde (PVP)
  • Argent Dawn (RP)
  • Arthas (PVP)
  • Blackrock (PVP)
  • Bleeding Hollow (PVP)
  • Cenarion Circle (RP)
  • Doomhammer (PVE)
  • Earthen Ring (RP)
  • Feathermoon (RP)
  • Firetree (PVP)
  • Hellscream (PVE)
  • Illidan (PVP)
  • Lightbringer (PVE)
  • Lightning's Blade (PVP)
  • Mannoroth (PVP)
  • Proudmoore (PVE)
  • Shattered Hand (PVP)
  • Skullcrusher (PVP)
  • Stormrage (PVE)
  • Stormreaver (PVP)
  • Stormscale (PVP)
  • Suramar (PVE)
  • Terenas (PVE)
  • Thunderhorn (PVE)
  • Thunderlord (PVP)
  • Tichondrius (PVP)
  • Uldum (PVE)
  • Uther (PVE)
  • Warsong (PVP)
  • Whisperwind (PVE)
  • Windrunner (PVE)
  • Zul'jin (PVE)

The price cut is effectively immediately, and is anticipated to be the first of many similar price reductions as the popularity, and server population, of World of Warcraft continues to grow.
